In a world where Jacob Autry can only play television theme songs, what will his set list look like? All this and even more will be revealed in the local music man’s iDig PopQuiz interview right here! Read on, reader!
iDig: Hey Jacob, what’s your story?
Jacob: What I can say about my story in a brief interview? Haha, well…started playing the guitar around the age of ten, laying it flat on my lap, fretting tunes from car commercials using only my thumb.
Seven years later and jungles of relationships, locations, and lessons-learned later, my current state of motion has me songwriting off the wazoo to let loose some of the wild chickens from in my head, haha.
Starting my career as a professional musician at the age of sixteen has its pro’s and con’s but overall I couldn’t ask to be doing anything differently. It is a way for me express my love for life and my gratitude towards all it’s contents in a the funkiest way imaginable..
iDig: What’s the first word that pops into your head when we say music?
iDig: What’s the first word that pops into your head when we say opposite of music?
iDig: Let’s say you have no choice but to perform only TV themes songs for your next gig. What will you open with?
Jacob: If I had no choice but to perform only TV theme songs for my next gig I’d definitely open with the Monty Python’s Flying Circus song (which may require assistance from orchestral instruments).
iDig: What would you close with?
Jacob: I’d close with a bang from the TV show Sons Of Anarchy; This Life by Curtis Stigers & The Forest Rangers.
iDig: Good point. What’s the best album ever made?
Jacob: It hasn’t been made yet! I would say Amos Lee’s self-titled album (the one with “Dreamin’” on it) is the most killer one off the top of my head.
iDig: If you were to cover an entire album for a gig what would it be?
Jacob: Cover an entire album for a gig? pshhhh. It would be Jamie Cullum’s The Pursuit; so jazzy, so mmmmmhmm good!
iDig: What’s your favorite song?
Jacob: My favorite song would have to be “All My Thanks” by The Homegrown Revival. Listen to it please, Jason and Lara are great.
iDig: Finish this sentence: If I’d never picked up a guitar I’d be…
Jacob: …locked up, haha!
iDig: Where can we see you play? Any gigs coming up?
Jacob: I am currently booking shows in Blueridge, Gainesville, Athens, and everywhere else once I make my rounds! I have a website and a Facebook fan page where -most- of my upcoming shows can be seen. I’ll also be hosting this Thursday’s open mic at the Bourbon Street Grille in Dahlonega where anyone can come out and play a few songs with the locals and myself.
